The following is a letter that was published in the State Journal-Register (the local newspaper for Springfield, IL) and my reply to that letter, which was also published in the SJ-R. The topic is gay marriage and the Founding Fathers' opinions on it.
For the first time in 228 years the state of Massachusetts has legalized same-sex marriages. The marriage bed is defiled. The Founding Fathers would turn over in their graves if they knew what is happening in the state of Massachusetts about same-sex marriage.
What's more sickening than to see two men or women kissing on TV? The homosexuals have come out of the closet to push their agenda in our face in our living rooms. If Christians don't stand up to get this law repealed in Massachusetts about same-sex marriages, it could spread to the rest of the United States.
The God of Israel will destroy the United States just like Sodom and Gomorrah if the same-sex marriage law isn't repealed. The United States is at a critical moment -- to obey God's divine laws or obey man's perverted laws, which will mean destruction!
I love the homosexual, but I don't like the immorality they do. I give this warning in love, not condemnation or guilt. There's a judgement day coming soon for the same-sex marriage law in Massachusetts. God will not be mocked. The United States of America is in the valley of decisions!
Liberalism is contrary to everything that has made this country great! May God forgive us for our shortcomings and continue to guide those who need his guidance to save this country from its self-indulgence and loss of morality guiding its principles. And may God bless all those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for you and me.
George Culley
Pickneyville
I was simply amazed at the hatred expressed by George Culley of Pickneyville towards gays. He said he loved "the homosexual". So, I'm guessing he uses words such as "abomination", "immoral", and "sickening" to describe family members or other loved ones? If he truly does feel "love", perhaps he shouldn't have used words with such abhorrent connotation attached to them.
I also find it interesting to hear that George is the new spokesperson for our Founding Fathers. I didn't get the memo. How he managed to get the opinions on modern issues from people that have not been alive for more than 150 years is beyond me.
One thing that the Founding Fathers DID talk at length about while they were alive is the danger of mixing Church and State. Does George give any SECULAR reasons to ban homosexual marriage? No. He merely espouses "God's divine laws".
There is a reason that the Founding Fathers didn't want Church and State to mix and George showed us exactly why. It would seem that whenever "Christian" evangelisits evoke God's name the most is when they show the least amount of respect and compassion for other human beings.
